Annotatsiya

This article explores the pragmatic role of humor in English and Uzbek political speeches from a comparative perspective. It analyzes how humor functions as a communicative strategy to enhance persuasion, build rapport with audiences, and mitigate criticism. The study focuses on pragmatic concepts such as implicature, indirectness, and politeness strategies, highlighting cultural differences between English and Uzbek political discourse. The findings reveal that while humor in English speeches tends to be direct and expressive, Uzbek political humor is more implicit and culturally bound. Despite these differences, humor in both contexts serves similar pragmatic purposes in influencing public opinion and maintaining social harmony.
