Annotatsiya

Social-ecological issues such as climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainability have become central topics in contemporary public discourse. Newspapers play a crucial role in shaping public understanding of these issues by framing problems, assigning responsibility, and suggesting solutions. This article investigates how social-ecological issues are constructed and discussed in newspaper discourse. Using a qualitative discourse-analytical approach, the study examines selected newspaper articles from English and Uzbek sources to identify dominant themes, linguistic strategies, and ideological positions. The analysis reveals that newspapers often frame social-ecological problems through narratives of crisis, responsibility, and future risk, while balancing scientific information with political and economic considerations. Furthermore, the findings show that discourse choices influence readers’ perceptions of urgency and agency. The study contributes to media discourse research by highlighting the role of newspapers in mediating social-ecological awareness and promoting environmental responsibility. Understanding these discursive patterns is essential for improving public communication on sustainability and ecological challenges
