Распространенность аллергических заболеваний в мире приобретает катастрофические масштабы. К этим заболеваниям относятся астма, анафилаксия, лекарственная и пищевая аллергия, ринит, аллергия на яд насекомых, экзема, отек Квинке. Серьезной является проблема аллергии в детском возрасте. За последний 20 лет распространенность аллергических заболеваний у детей значительно возросла. Несмотря на это, даже в развитых странах помощь пациентам с аллергическими заболеваниями зачастую оказывается неполноценной.
