The article examines the history of the production of cannons, which were artillery pieces in the Khanate of Khiva. According to written sources, in the 17 th-18 th centuries the production of artillery weapons in the Khiva Khanate was not established and was also not used in the army. From the first half of the 18 th century, the existence of artillery weapons in the Khanate was known; these were mainly cannons, which became prey in the wars with Russia, Iran and Bukhara. From the beginning of the 19 th century, the production of cannons was established in the Khiva Khanate, which were used for military purposes in the army. However, in the early period, problems arose when laying the cannons, and the cannon casting craftsmen were called from abroad. In the middle of the 19 th century, the Khanate also established work on casting cannons by local craftsmen, as well as a group of craftsmen repairing broken cannons. Recently, the Khanate continued to use hired Afghan and Indian craftsmen to cast cannons. In the 70 s of the 19 th century, work was carried out in the Khanate to cast high-quality cannons adapted to field conditions, albeit in small quantities. Nevertheless, the relative share of artillery pieces in the army was small - not even a group of professional specialists was formed to use them.
