The appearance of Christianity in Khorezm in the early Middle Ages has a unique and therefore complicated history. Material sources identified during written and archaeological research indicate that in the Middle Ages a large community of Eastern Christians lived on the territory of the oasis. Communities located in regions near the southern borders of Central Asia played a major role in the spread of Christianity here. This article analyzes the Melikite sect of Orthodox Christianity that existed in Khorezm in the early Middle Ages, i.e., in the pre-Islamic period, its arrival here, as well as the special place of representatives of this religious community in the oasis.
