In the article, in a certain sequence, various methods and approaches of historical research developed by Western European and American scientists are briefly analyzed, their features are revealed. The advantages and disadvantages of these approaches are discussed. Of the research methods, special attention is paid to the analysis of the synergistic and systematic approach. Their use is discussed. Focusing on the theoretical and methodological aspects of the problems of culture, the relevance of a deep analysis of the problems of culture is substantiated.
