The article reveals the genesis of Uzbek children's literature from ancient times on the example of Uzbek folk tales, proverbs, Uzbek classics Abu Nasr Farobi, Yusuf Khos Hajib, Alisher Navoi. The term "children's literature" is also scientifically defined. It relies on some sources available so far. The author expressed his personal attitude to each scientific comment and entered into a scientific discussion with scientists.
