The aim of this study was to investigate the content of free and bound carnitine in the blood of young athletes involved in various sports. A total of 101 young athletes of various qualifications aged 15 to 17 years were examined. For the study, young men were divided into two groups: Group I — complex impact sports (football) — 38 people, Group II — cyclic sport (rowing) — 31 people. Young women (32) were divided into three groups: Group I — complex impact sports (football) — 14 people, Group II — cyclic sport developing mainly endurance (rowing) — 6 people, and Group III — complex coordination sport (rhythmic gymnastics) — 12 people. It was revealed that the assessment of carnitine metabolism indices allows predicting the level of physical performance of athletes involved in various sports. It has been established that carnitine metabolism and body composition indicators have predictive value in assessing the physical performance of young athletes.
