The article presents scientific opinions about the method of character and conflict creation in the stories of the Karakalpak writer K.Smamutovtıń. «Kelinimniń pák muhabatı», «Baylar da jilaydı», «Deydi, deydi, deydi eken», «Jası úlkenniń sıyırı», «Solaqay», «Ańqaw balanıń ákesi», «Túyeniń kópirden ótiwi», the writer’s skills in creating character and conflict are analyzed in his stories. In the works of the writer, the uniqueness of the creation of the character of the hero is studied.
