The role of the innate immune system, pattern recognition receptors, TLR, CLR and RLR, are known to be key in the response to HIV infection. Activation of the receptors leads to the production of type I interferons, which helps limit viral replication in the early stages of infection. However, chronic interaction of HIV with the immune system causes long-term activation of these pathways, which can lead to inflammation and disruption of immune homeostasis. An important aspect is the interferon-stimulated genes ISG, which play a key role in host defense, but HIV has evolved to suppress these mechanisms, which contributes to its long-term existence in the body. This article reviews various molecules and mechanisms of immune defense, including the role of interferons and their receptors, as well as APOBEC3G and ISG15 molecules, which are involved in antiviral activity and may be potential targets for therapeutic interventions.
