Groundwater management is an important element in irrigated agriculture. This article analyzes the temporal dynamics of the groundwater level in the Muzrabod district, located in the upper reaches of the Amudarya in the south of the Surkhandarya region of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The purpose of this study was to determine and evaluate the spatial changes in the depletion of groundwater level differences by using geostatistical methods based on data from 12 groundwater wells during the period from January 2018 to December 2021 in the study area. Groundwater level analysis for 2018-2021 is divided into pre-irrigation (April), irrigation period (July), post-irrigation (October) and multi-year periods. Geostatistical methods have been used widely as a convenient tool to make decision on the management of groundwater levels. The geographic information system IDW interpolation method was used to estimate spatial changes in groundwater levels. The maps show that the zone of sharp decrease in the groundwater level is located in the northwestern and eastern parts. In most parts of the region, it was noted that the depth of groundwater is from 1 to 6 meters. The IDW model also helps identify areas at risk for groundwater withdrawal. Such areas should be protected by effective management procedures for future groundwater use.
