This article examines the phenomena of “face” and “face-saving activity” in the process of communication from a pragmatic perspective, analyzes the reflection of socio-psychological relations between communicative participants in speech strategies and tactics, substantiates the pragmatic essence of the concept of “face” and its connection with respect, reputation, and social status, and identifies face-threatening acts along with the mechanisms of their mitigation.
