This article is devoted to the issues of using and automating the “Wetting Front Detector” (WFD) technology for the effective use of water resources in Uzbekistan’s agriculture, in particular in cotton cultivation. As part of the research, the device installation depths and irrigation standards were analyzed according to the growth stages of cotton. Also, an algorithm for automating the WFD system was developed based on Arduino and IoT technologies, which allows monitoring soil moisture in real time. As a result of field experiments in 2016-2018, it was proven that compared to traditional irrigation methods, water consumption can be saved by up to 34-37% and productivity can be increased by 0.04-0.10 t/ha. At the end of the article, the prospects for introducing this technology within the framework of the Concept for the Development of Water Resources in Uzbekistan for 2020-2030 are outlined.
