This article analyzes the famous short stories by Washington Irving, such as Rip Van Winkle, The Specter Bridegroom, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, highlighting their artistic and ideological features. The focus is on how the author employs satire and humor as creative tools, and the ways he crafts whimsical, symbolic images through artistic devices. The study demonstrates how Irving combines folk legends, religious superstitions, historical and social events with elements of fantasy and realism. Additionally, the article examines the writer’s literary style, his artistic approach to character creation, and the humoristic and ironic tone conveyed in the portrayal of his characters.
