Ushbu maqolada 1957-1991-yillarda Sovet Ittifoqi iqtisodyoti, iqtisodiy tizimning rivojlanish bosqichlari va inqiroz omillari tahlil qilinadi. 1960-1970-yillarda Sovet iqtisodiyotida ogʻir sanoat, energetika va harbiy sanoat kompleksini rivojlantirishga e’tibor qaratilganligi shu bilan birga iste’mol tovarlari ishlab chiqarishi, qishloq xo‘jaligi va xizmat ko‘rsatish sohalari yetarli darajada rivolanmaganligi, iqtisodiy o‘sish sekinlashib, ishlab chiqarish samaradorligi pasayishi va uning ijtimoiy holatga ta’siri ham yoritiladi. 1980-yillarning o‘rtalarida amalga oshirilgan ”qayta qurish” va ochiqlik siyosati iqtisodiy tizimni isloh qilishga qaratilgan bo‘lsada, qisqa muddatda kutilgan natijalarni bermaganligi. Natijada ishlab chiqarish hajmi kamayib, ta’minot tizimi ishdan chiqdi va ijtimoiy-iqtisodiy muammolar kuchaydi. Maqolada markazlashgan boshqaruv tizimi samaradorligining pasayishi, texnologik yangilanishning sustligi va iqtisodiy islohotlarning kechikishi, Sovet Ittifoqining 1991-yilda parchalanishiga olib kelgan siyosiy va iqtisodiy omillar yoritiladi
