In contemporary scholarly literature, no specialized studies have yet been identified that provide a comprehensive analysis of a scholar’s scientific biography within a sociocultural context. There are no works in which the scholar’s academic legacy is considered not only in terms of his contribution to the history of the Russian language and linguistics, but also as a factor in the formation of a sustainable scholarly school and the transmission of academic traditions. This gap is addressed by the present study, the relevance of which is determined by the need to conceptualise the role of the scholar’s personality in preserving and developing the academic traditions of national philology, as well as in the formation of scholarly schools and interdisciplinary research directions. Over several decades, D. S. Kulmamatov’s academic activity has demonstrated a rare combination of scholarly rigour, a high level of linguistic source studies, meticulous work with archival materials, and a genuine devotion to the word and its semantic transformations in diachrony. The works of D. S. Kulmamatov (research articles, monographs, textbooks, and teaching manuals) are based on a thorough analysis of ancient manuscripts, etymological layers, and materials of interlingual contact, enabling the reconstruction of complex processes in the historical development of language. The novelty of the study lies in a holistic examination of the scholar’s academic path through the prism of sociocultural factors that shaped his professional formation and pedagogical practice. The aim of the article is to identify the key features of D. S. Kulmamatov’s scholarly biography and to demonstrate his contribution to the development of the history of the Russian language and to intercultural dialogue. As a result of the study, the significance of his scholarly and pedagogical ideas for contemporary humanities research and the training of a new generation of philologists has been established. The article also demonstrates that reading culture, as a significant factor in the formation of D. S. Kulmamatov's scientific worldview, is linked to consistent practices and work with written sources.
