The article describes the methodology for carrying out seismic design of reinforced concrete railway bridges, including actual earthquake records. The main structural parts of reinforced concrete railway bridges are systematised. An automated software complex for researchers in the field of seismodynamics of the railway bridges has been created to solve the class of linear and non-linear problems. The structure is modelled using the finite element method. An implicit Newmark finite difference method is used to solve a system of ordinary differential equations. The same software package is designed for designers as a tool for assessment of seismic resistance of railway bridges, which allows to take into account the difference of soil base properties in different sections
