The article considers the first beginnings of the science of anthropology, and its origin as a science in the works of ancient philosophers. The first anthropological societies, their area of research, results and achievements are given. In addition, in this work, the author cited the main results of some Soviet anthropologists on the anthropological appearance of the population of Turkestan.
