This article examines the pragmatic potential of emojis in contemporary internet discourse within the framework of speech act theory. The main objective of the study is a comparative analysis of the illocutionary and perlocutionary functions of emojis based on materials from the English and Uzbek languages. To achieve this, a comprehensive corpus comprising 1,200 communicative units—including social media comments, messenger chats, and microblog posts in both languages—was compiled. The analysis utilized context-pragmatic methods, speech act classification, and frequency-statistical tools. The results demonstrate that in both languages, emojis are actively employed as a means to intensify expressive and directive speech acts,modulate the illocutionary force of utterances, and ensure politeness in communication. Furthermore, while emojis in Englishlanguage discourse frequently perform ironic and phatic functions, in Uzbek-language discourse they predominantly express respect, sincerity, and emotional closeness. The study confirms the status of emojis as independent pragmatic signs.
