Cognitive-semantic features of pseudonymic nominations in english and uzbek: a comparative-typological analysis

This article provides a comparative analysis of the formation, semantic content, cognitive foundations, and linguocultural characteristics of pseudonymic nominations in English and Uzbek. Pseudonyms are interpreted not merely as means of concealing an author's real name, but also as secondary nominative units tha express the author's social status, creative views, aesthetic ideals, and cultural identity. The study employs cognitive-semantic, descriptive, contextual, and comparative-typological methods to analyze such English pseudonyms as Bon Viveur, A Farmer and a Breeder, and John Ploughman, as well as the pen names Fitrat, Cho‘lpon, and Oybek in Uzbek literature. The findings indicate that metaphorical transfer, lexical-semantic reinterpretation, personal identification, and the expression of social roles play important roles in the formation of pseudonyms. The selected English examples prominently demonstrate the use of professional roles, descriptive phrases, and the construction of particular social images, whereas the Uzbek examples place greater emphasis on meanings associated with nature, celestial bodies, spiritual values, and national-cultural symbols. The findings broaden the possibilities for studying pseudonyms within the framework of the relationship between language,cognition, and culture.
