This article analyzes, on the basis of field research, the assimilative influence of the local Turkish language on the language of ethnic Uzbeks living in Adana Province of the Republic of Türkiye. In the course of the study, the oral speech of respondents belonging to different age groups was recorded and examined from phonetic, lexical and sociolinguistic perspectives. The results show that while representatives of the first generation have largely preserved the dialectal features of Uzbek, in the third and subsequent generations the dominance of Turkish has increased and the process of language shift has accelerated. On the basis of “field materials”, the article also sheds light on the history of the Uzbeks’ migration to the Adana region, their efforts to preserve their language and the current language situation.
