The article analyzes the alignment of physics curricula with the patterns of students' cognitive development. It draws upon Piaget's theory, which defines the stages of cognitive development in children during the period of physics instruction in various educational institutions. It is shown that the sequencing of physics course material often fails to correspond to the students' level of cognitive development. An approach to designing physics curricula based on Piaget's theory is proposed.
