The data on the state of fresh water resources in the states of the Aral Sea basin are presented. It is shown that their deficitsignificantly worsens the ecological state of the region, in particular, leads to the development of the desertification processesand, as a consequence, the loss of many representatives of biodiversity, reduces the quality of life of the population.The need for more thorough research in this area and a careful attitude to water resources is indicated.
