Comparative analysis of linguistic and pragmatic features of diplomatic discourse in english and uzbek languages

This article presents a comparative analysis of the linguistic and pragmatic features of diplomatic discourse in English and Uzbek. Diplomatic texts - including official statements, notes, negotiation transcripts, and international treaties - are characterized by their distinct linguistic devices, namely the strategic deployment of euphemisms, modality, indirect speech acts, and communicative strategies. Throughout the study, politeness strategies, hedging devices, presupposition, and implicature phenomena manifest in the textual materials of both languages were examined from a comparative perspective. The findings reveal that while English diplomatic texts more actively employ indirect modes of expression and modal verbs, Uzbek diplomatic speech is predominantly dominated by lexical-grammatical means that denote respect and honorific address forms. This research carries substantial practical significance for international relations specialists, translators, and linguists operating within the field.
