This article explores the distinctive features of character creation in English and Uzbek literature through a comparative analysis of the works of Jane Austen and Abdulla Qodiriy. Although the two writers represent different national literary traditions and historical contexts, both occupy an important place in the development of realistic prose and demonstrate a profound interest in the relationship between the individual and society. The study focuses primarily on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and Emma, and Abdulla Qodiriy’s O‘tkan Kunlar (Bygone Days) and Mehrobdan Chayon. Particular attention is devoted to the artistic techniques used to construct the psychological, social, moral, and national dimensions of literary characters. The research employs comparative- typological, historical-literary, psychological, and textual analysis. The study demonstrates that Austen creates characters through irony, dialogue, social observation, psychological development, and subtle moral evaluation, whereas Qodiriy combines psychological characterization with historical context, national traditions, cultural values, and social criticism. Elizabeth Bennet, Emma Woodhouse, Otabek, Kumush, and Anvar are analyzed as representative examples of character construction in the two literary traditions. The findings reveal that despite significant differences in cultural context and artistic method, both authors use character as a means of examining social norms, moral values, personal freedom, and human relationships. The comparative analysis ultimately demonstrates that character creation in English and Uzbek literature reflects both culturally specific features and universal principles of human experience.
