IELTS Academic Writing Task 2 requires learners to construct and develop arguments, organise ideas coherently, use appropriate vocabulary, and demonstrate grammatical range and accuracy under strict time constraints. Although many EFL learners receive extensive examination preparation, persistent difficulties remain in lexical precision, collocations, academic phraseology, grammatical accuracy, coherence, and the development of sufficiently supported arguments. Conventional IELTS preparation often relies on vocabulary lists, model essays, memorised expressions, and teacher correction. While these techniques may provide useful examination strategies, they do not necessarily develop independent, transferable, and context-sensitive writing competence. Corpus linguistics offers an alternative and complementary approach. A corpus is a systematically compiled collection of authentic language that can be electronically analysed to identify patterns of language use. Corpus analysis enables learners and teachers to examine frequency, collocation, concordance lines, lexical bundles, grammatical patterns, semantic associations, register, and discourse features. When corpus resources are used pedagogically to encourage learners to investigate language and formulate evidence-based observations, the approach is commonly referred to as Data-Driven Learning (DDL). Johns (1991) conceptualised the learner as a language researcher who observes authentic examples, formulates hypotheses, and tests those hypotheses against corpus evidence.
