The essential features of libraries-museums and the peculiarities of their work, as well as the importance of museum activities of libraries in the development of scientific research, preservation and popularization of the national cultural heritage, are revealed. The activity of libraries-museums as innovative memorial and cultural-educational centers is analyzed. The general foundations of the social functioning of libraries and museums are highlighted. The achievements and prospects for the development of the activities of libraries-museums are characterized, in particular, on the examples of the work of these institutions in Ukraine.
