UZBEKISTAN AND UNESCO: STRATEGIC COOPERATION AND GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT

This article examines the strategic cooperation between UNESCO and Uzbekistan within the context of the country’s evolving foreign policy and growing international engagement. The study highlights Uzbekistan’s transition toward a more open, pragmatic, and peace-oriented diplomatic approach, emphasizing its active participation in global and regional processes. Particular attention is given to key areas of cooperation, including cultural heritage preservation, education, science, and sustainable development. The paper analyzes Uzbekistan’s contributions to UNESCO’s programs, such as the inclusion of national heritage sites and intangible cultural elements in international lists, as well as the establishment of UNESCO Chairs and participation in global initiatives. Furthermore, the article evaluates the significance of hosting the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand as a milestone event reflecting the country’s increasing international prestige and diplomatic role. The findings demonstrate that cooperation with UNESCO serves as an important instrument for strengthening Uzbekistan’s global image, promoting intercultural dialogue, and advancing long-term development priorities.
