The objective of this study was to investigate the structure of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) pathogens in hospitalized adult patients with previously diagnosed chronic heart failure (CHF). Thus, among the most common pathogens of CAP in hospitalized adult patients with concomitant CHF, S. pneumoniae and respiratory viruses can be highlighted. In the absence of sputum culture and a rapid screening test, the detection of S. pneumoniae in sputum using quantitative real-time PCR could be considered in the future.
