Annotatsiya

The article covers some features of the development of British linguistics in the 20th century and provides information about its connection with earlier branches of scholarship. The main concept of 20th-century British linguistics was the London School, and subsequent ideas were formed on the basis of this school. Systemic functional linguistics views language in the context of speech or writing and interprets linguistic forms according to their meaning. In English-language academic literature this notion is called "systemic functional linguistics", "systemic linguistics", "systemic functional grammar" or "systemic grammar". The founder of systemic functional linguistics is Michael Halliday, and the main components of the theory are the paradigmatic dimension and the focus on meaning rather than on form. The metafunctions on which the linguistic system is based are also distinguished, and they are the following: the interpersonal metafunction, the experiential metafunction and the textual metafunction.
