Calcium is one of the most important macroelements playing an important role in the functioning of the human organism. In the composition of the earth's crust calcium occupies 5th place in abundance and represents about 3.4% of the total mass. In the human organism the content of calcium is from 1.5 to 2.2% of the total body weight and is located mainly in the bones and teeth, as well as in small quantities in the intercellular fluid and intracellular structures. The present article offers a review of the functions of calcium in the human organism, of its regulation and of the ways of its interaction with other elements and systems.
