Modic type changes are pathological changes in the vertebrae and their end plates in the form of bone marrow edema, fatty degeneration or osteosclerosis, detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The article presents modern information on pathogenesis, classification, clinical manifestations and treatment of this disease. In the clinical picture, changes in Modic are manifested by chronic non-specific pain syndrome in the lumbar region, which causes difficulties in diagnosis and is poorly amenable to conservative and surgical treatment. Until now, there is no single view on the effectiveness of this or that treatment method, and therefore there are no accepted treatment protocols for this disease.
