Annotatsiya

This research explores the syntactic, stylistic, and pragmatic nuances of audiovisual media discourse by comparing English and Uzbek screen texts across feature films, television broadcasts, streaming series, and digital video advertisements. Moving beyond static print media, this study highlights how both languages deploy audiovisual translation (AVT) mechanisms—including metonymy, situational analogues, calques, and phono-graphic transformations (transcription/transliteration)—to maintain emotional, communicative, and cultural resonance. Integrating empirical data from corpus-based research on classic Uzbek films (O'tkan kunlar) and modern English releases (The Covenant), the analysis reveals how the structural variance between an analytic language (English) and an agglutinative language (Uzbek) dictates the pragmatic success of subtitling and dubbing. The findings demonstrate that while English audiovisual texts prioritize linguistic compression, dynamic action, and individual psychological impact, Uzbek adaptations systematically implement localization and cultural substitution to align with collective traditions, moral-philosophical values, and localized stylistic expectations.
