This study examines early neurobehavioral changes in school-age children following exposure to general anesthesia, focusing on clinical signs and neuropsychological indicators that may serve as early diagnostic markers. The developing brain is highly sensitive to pharmacological agents, and anesthesia may temporarily alter cognitive and emotional functioning during the postoperative period. A cohort of neurologically healthy children undergoing elective surgery was assessed through clinical observation and standardized cognitive testing within the first week after anesthesia. The findings revealed mild to moderate disturbances in attention, short-term memory, processing speed, emotional stability, and sleep patterns. Children who experienced longer anesthesia duration exhibited more pronounced neurobehavioral alterations. Clinical symptoms, such as irritability, fatigue, decreased concentration, and behavioral fluctuations, showed strong correspondence with neuropsychological performance. These results highlight the importance of early monitoring and comprehensive evaluation to identify postoperative neurobehavioral dysfunction in pediatric patients. Early diagnostic indicators may assist clinicians in improving postoperative care and supporting timely recovery.
