This article analyzes the systemic organization of terminological units in English and Uzbek, the general theoretical foundations of terminology, and the theoretical- methodological criteria necessary for studying criminal terminology from a comparative- linguistic perspective. In the study, terminology is interpreted not as a simple set of words, but as a specialized lexical system that expresses concepts related to a particular science, profession, or socio-legal field in a precise, systematic, and standardized form. The article examines E. Wüster’s normative theory of terminology, M. T. Cabré’s communicative approach to terminology, as well as the main views of Russian, European, and Uzbek schools of terminology. Based on scholarly views concerning the linguistic, logical, semiotic, and cognitive nature of the term, the article reveals the main features of terminological units, such as precision, systematicity, monosemy, normativity, definability, and communicative functionality.
