Drawing on theoretical frameworks such as Freudian psychoanalysis and contemporary literary criticism, the study examines how dualities—manifested through internal conflicts, interpersonal relationships, and symbolic oppositions—shape narrative meaning and character development. Through close analysis of selected literary works, including The Great Gatsby, Beloved, All My Sons, and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, the article demonstrates how dual character constructs reflect broader societal tensions, moral ambiguities, and identity struggles. Additionally, the discussion of archetypes such as mentors and foils highlights their role in reinforcing thematic depth and narrative complexity. Ultimately, the paper argues that dual character relationships function as a critical lens through which literature engages with enduring questions of human nature, cultural identity, and self-discovery.
