SYNTHESIS AND ANTIFUNGAL EVALUATION OF A CARBAMATE DERIVATIVE

Dermatophytosis (ringworm) is one of the most widespread fungal diseases affecting livestock animals and causes significant economic losses in animal husbandry. In the present study, a novel carbamate derivative, γ,γ-diiodopropargyl ether of hexamethylenedicarbamate, was synthesized and evaluated for its antifungal activity under livestock farm conditions. The biological activity of the synthesized compound is attributed to functional groups such as -(CH₂)₆-, -O-CH₂-, -NH-CO-, triple bonds, and halogen atoms, which enhance its fungicidal properties. The compound was formulated as a 1–2% lanolin-based ointment and tested on calves aged 6–7 months naturally infected with ringworm. Treatment was carried out by topical application twice at two-day intervals after cleaning the affected areas. The therapeutic efficacy of the synthesized compound was compared with that of the commercial antifungal preparation “Juglone” ointment. The results demonstrated that the new compound exhibited pronounced antifungal activity and accelerated healing. Clinical improvement was observed on the fifth day, while complete recovery occurred within 8–11 days. In contrast, treatment with Juglone ointment required 12–19 days and showed recurrence of lesions in some cases. The synthesized γ,γ-diiodopropargyl ether of hexamethylenedicarbamate demonstrated approximately 1.5-fold higher activity compared to the reference drug. These findings indicate the potential application of the synthesized carbamate derivative as an effective antifungal agent in veterinary medicine.
