EARLY DETECTION OF ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY USING CYSTATIN C: A STUDY ON SUBCLINICAL DIAGNOSIS IN AN EXPERIMENTAL RAT MODEL

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious condition that can result in long-term kidney damage or failure if not detected and treated early. Traditional diagnostic markers such as creatinine often fail to provide timely detection. This study aimed to evaluate cystatin C, a modern biomarker, for the early prediction and diagnosis of AKI at the subclinical stage. Using an experimental rat model, AKI was induced, and blood samples were taken to measure the levels of cystatin C and other biochemical indicators. The findings suggest that cystatin C is a highly sensitive marker, rising significantly earlier than creatinine, allowing for the early detection and treatment of AKI. These results have important implications for clinical practice, potentially allowing for earlier interventions and improved patient outcomes.
