Annotatsiya

This article presents a linguo-cognitive analysis of Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea. The study examines the artistic and aesthetic essence of the work, its symbolic layers, conceptual structure, and the close relationship between the characters’ speech and thought. Special attention is paid to the linguistic representation of such concepts as human willpower, patience, endurance, faith, and the philosophy of life through the image of Santiago. The paper also explores the role of landscape description, dialogues, symbols, and intertextual references in deepening the semantic structure of the novella. The analysis demonstrates that linguistic units in the work function not only as means of artistic expression but also as important linguo-cognitive tools revealing the character’s inner world, mental processes, and ways of perceiving reality.
