In modem dental literature (textbooks, manuals) periodontitis is presented as an inflammatory disease of periodontal tissues in the region of the tooth root. The authors believe that this definition does not affect the dryness of the pathological process. Periodontal tissue is located m the periodontal lining - its inflammation is periodontitis. But if the process has gone beyond the periodontal gap into the alveolar bone, it should be referred to as osteitis. Based on this situation, the authors propose a new clinical and anatomical classification of inflammatory diseases of periapical tissues.
