In the article, the process of organizing and forming armed forces from representatives of local nationalities in the Turkestan region in the early years of Soviet power was scientifically studied. It is shown that in the early days, the Soviet authorities tried to form an army from the local population who were not mobilized for military service during the Russian Empire, taking into account the national characteristics of the population, first of all, their religious views. It is also explained that for the representatives of the armed resistance movement fighting against the Soviet power, Islam served as an ideological unifying force for the freedom of Turkestan. It is scientifically proven that in the process of enlisting representatives of the local population for military service and units, the Soviet authorities took into account the military qualities, household lifestyle, and even faith of the local population in the early days.
