The article highlights the process of forming the legal foundations of archiving in Uzbekistan in the years of independence. In the course of the analysis of the laws and regulations adopted in this area, the main milestones in the emergence and improvement of archival legislation in the republic are revealed. The factors that determined the adoption of new normative documents on archiving are revealed. It is emphasized that the creation of a legal framework in the Republic of Uzbekistan has had a fruitful impact on the practical activities of archives.
