The article discusses the ancient history of Bactria on the basis of the "Avesta", ancient Iranian, ancient Roman, Greek, ancient Bactrian and Chinese written sources. Their data is analyzed. Attention is drawn to the etymology of the word "Bactra", the process of the conquest of the Achaemenids, the cost of talent, taxes and Macedonian relationships with the Bactrians. The questions of the study of documents found from northern Afghanistan dating are considered from the 4th century BC. Based on Chinese sources, it is substantiated that the Chinese arrived in Bactria through India.
