In this article, the author highlights the issues of the organization and activities of scientific research institutions in Uzbekistan in the period from the end of the 19th century to the establishment of the Academy of Sciences. It showed that research institutions can play a worthy role in solving problems of this period, ways to conduct research, changing attitudes to science, the development of local staff and science. Consideration of this problem serves as the main material for studying the foundations of the organization of the Academy of Sciences.
