Blockchain technology is many-sided, today it is used not only for creation and turnover of cryptocurrency. Authors described the mechanism of functioning of technology as the decentralized system. But at the same time the functionality of blockchain from the point of view of money turnover is disclosed. An analogy to document flow is drawn and potential ways of use of technology are offered. The existing international and domestic experience of use of blockchain for the purpose of a business process optimization is considered. The example of optimized business process which will allow to increase considerably quality and speed of customer service of bank in the retail sales channel is given. The largest finance companies of Russia found application for blockchain for implementation of so-called "smart contracts" when two companies can be quiet for safety of themade transactions. The main stages of the transaction arranged in a transaction type based on smart contracts in the Ethereum system are described. In article the document flow methods functioning at this stage of technology and economic development in bank are considered: their shortcomings are revealed. Based on the materials stating the existing experience of use of blockchain technology in the sphere of trade by means of the empirical analysis potential opportunities and restraining factors of its use in the bank sphere are determined.
