ABSTRACT The article aims at dealing with comparative analysis of such linguistic terms as complex syntactic whole and period based on the material of the English language, and in the process of comparative analysis, the similarities and differences of the above-mentioned concepts are listed based on scientific sources. At this point, the article consistently shows the types of connection of complex syntactic wholes and specific features of periods. Key words: complex syntactic wholes, conjunction, period, chain and parallel connection, beginning, artistic text analysis.
