The article examines some issues related to the current status of science fiction as a tool for transferring knowledge between natural sciences and humanities. No matter what is its name – science fiction, speculative literature, or paraliterature – this literary genre has managed to convince its ability to not only entertain, but also educate the reader. Initial disagreements over its place in the literary space spurred more detailed definitions of the genre, as well as fostered more concrete views on its ability to inspire innovative and thought-provoking phenomena. It is argued that the inclusion of science fiction in the curriculum of translation courses of universities should not be reduced to an attempt to add a "space", "android" or "alien" flavor to the texts, as many teachers usually approach this when they decide to use the text of science fiction in the lesson on translation studies. In this article, we aim to bring a new dimension to the debate about translation practice by focusing on the testimony of science fiction translators in order to shed some light on some prejudice and compare initial theoretical assumptions with the reality of the translation process of the literary genre itself.
