Relevance. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), abnormalities of the female genital organs are more common in families and countries with limited resources. About 94% of severe malformations are found in low- and middle-income countries, where women often face poor nutrition and lack of access to quality health care. Despite the large number and types of surgical interventions to create a neovagina, its morphological aspects have not yet been fully studied. Purpose: Study of morphological changes in the mucous membrane of an artificial vagina created from the sigmoid colon. Methods: To assess the morphofunctional state of the mucous membrane of the neovagina, after 6 months of observation, biopsy material was taken from 28 patients with vaginal anomalies for histological examination. The condition of the neovagina of patients after surgery was studied using general histological methods, such as hematoxylin and eosin staining, according to the Van Gysan method, according to Weigert method, CHIC staining, and Alcian blue staining. Results Obtained: The results of histological examination showed that the neovaginal mucosa was completely re-epithelialized and began to produce glycogen within approximately 6 months in all cases. Our study revealed that the mucous membrane of the neovagina in all cases had a flattened structure without the transverse folds characteristic of a normal vagina. This difference is due to the insufficient number of cells and venous plexuses under the mucous membrane of the neovagina. It is assumed that these differences are associated with the peculiarities of tissue architecture, vascularization and innervation of the neovagina compared to the normal vaginal wall. Conclusions: Studying the state of the neovagina created from the sigmoid colon, assessing the structural changes in the transformation of single-layer epithelium into multilayer epithelium observed in it makes it possible to predict the survival rate of the neovagina of patients.
