This article is devoted to the study of the European practice of protecting the rights of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reason for the scientific interest in this topic is the fact that today regional systems for the protection of human rights, including the rights of patients, have shown their greatest effectiveness than universal ones. The reason for this is a variety of factors: regional international mechanisms are mostly designed to solve local problems, and their human rights standards are more reflected in their national laws. In addition, there are already specific precedents that can serve as a source of law in resolving lawsuits. Another significant advantage of regional systems is that sanctions against the offending State within the system may be more effective than at the international level. Noting that the ECHR (European Court of Human Rights) has recently received reports regarding violations of patients' rights in connection with the pandemic, which significantly enriches their practice, as well as reveals systemic shortcomings in this area. Accordingly, it seems appropriate to study and apply the practice of the ECHR in national judicial systems.
