The article analyzes the status of the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Tashkent as a city of republican subordination, features of the administrative-territorial structure of the republic, regulatory legal acts aimed at regulating administrative-territorial units, as well as the experience of foreign countries in this area. Proposals have been developed to improve the legislation governing the legal status of the city of Tashkent, the administrative-territorial structure of the republic, including the concept of “city of republican subordination”.
